eVeL Components is the brainchild of Scott Hansen, an engineer and a committed fixer. In the winter of 2004, wrestling with a recalcitrant cog, he had a moment of inspiration. Disk brakes had bolt-on rotors: couldn't a fixed hub have a bolt-on sprocket? Scott stuck with the idea, bringing his first bolt-on hubs to market later the same year. We've been fans of the LeVeL since its inception, and we stock the hub and its various add-ons in depth. (We'll even stock the freewheel when it debuts in 2006.)

The InI rear hub is the core LeVeL offering, and at its heart is Scott's EyE interface. The special cog fits snugly over lugs projecting from the hub shell and is then secured with three TorX bolts. This enables a very positive lock while still allowing you to swap sprockets with a tiny pocket driver. Also remarkable is the hub's respaceability. If you decide to change spacings in future, you can take your LeVeL with you. Using handtools, you can reconfigure your LeVeL for a 120 or 135mm bike in a few minutes. We supply the hubs in 120mm 'track' or 135 'trail' mode, but they are the same product. (If you're interested, read up on the respacer kit.) The stock hubs are 32h bolt-on with a free 16t sprocket: drop us a note if you want a different cog or drilling.

HOW ABOUT
a wheelbuild?

The LeVeL front hub doesn't have the bells and whistles of the rear, but it's still a very nice piece of metalwork. Like the rear, it's a 32h with very high flanges and silky sealed bearings. QR only, but other drillings on custom order. Thinning out.

A LeVeL respacer kit is an extremely useful purchase, since the appropriate kit will enable you to migrate your 120 LeVeL rear hub onto a 135mm bike, or vice-versa. The term 'spacer' doesn't do justice to what is actually a substantial piece of precision machining. But this stuff is hard to explain! Better click on the image at left. You'll get a sequence of photos showing how easy it is to use a 120 kit to swap a 135 LeVeL to 120 mode. Those heading in the opposite direction can use their imaginations.

LeVeL sprockets are now available in all the standard Hubjub sizes, 16-20t, 3/32" and 1/8". We can get others on special order, too. The new sprockets are brightly polished stainless steel, tho' if you like the post-apocalyptic Mad Max look Will might possibly be persuaded to part with one of his galvanised cogs from the LeVeL prototype days.

LeVeL have been releasing anodised versions of their hubs for a couple of years now. You may have heard rumours of red, purple and green hubs -- all true, but only available as prizes at AlleyCats, sponsorship deals and such. But we can offer you some black LeVeLs. Since our stock of black shells is extremely limited, we aren't trying to provide full spec for the rears -- buy a 32 or 36h rear and we'll write back to you to confirm whether you want us to fit 120 or 135mm spacers, and what size cog you fancy. Fronts are all standard width, 36h, QR-type axle. (Wheelbuilds are feasible too, of course.) Presently on available on custom order only. We can get fronts, too.
