tronglight invented the square taper BB. It was the beginning of a long and honourable history of pioneering design and solid componentry. For instance, the classic 49D still has staunch adherents among cycletourists--an amazing record for a crankset introduced in 1949. During the 90s the company seemed to lose momentum, but in the last couple of years it has fought back strongly. We are big fans of Stronglight's present range of cranks.

Stronglight recently ceased production of their 130 BCD track crank, a Hubjub staple in both the 165 and 170 versions. We sold the last set a month or two back. We're expecting to bring in some of the new 144 BCD version when it becomes available later this year, but at present we can't get either crank. Sorry, but there it is.

Stronglight's Impact is a rebadged version of the venerable Sugino XD squaretaper mountain crank. (Look at the casting marks on the zoomed view if you don't believe us.) Stronglight sell it as one of the newfangled 110BCD 'compact doubles'. It's certainly sleek enough for a roadbike. Stronglight components are normally silver, but they recently did a small production run of black Impacts and we have a limited stock of black 170s for sale. Buy them with a Surly ring and we'll do chainring bolts for free. (If you fancy a silver version, check out the XDs on the Sugino page.)
